A DIY Guide to Painting your Modular Storage System

Posted in Furniture DIY

When you choose to refurbish your interiors, it is not that you need to make a grand investment for painting the entire house or for that matter purchase a brand new furniture set. You can just paint a particular piece of furniture and it would add that touch of novelty to a corner of your house. This is something that you can do on your own or with the help of this furniture DIY or do it yourself guide.

Modular Storage System

For starters, you can begin by painting your modular cube storage system. It is an indispensable part of your furniture set and a fresh coat of paint will definitely increase its longevity. Majority of these modular storage systems are made up of laminate or wood veneer and this might make it a bit difficult for you. What you need to do is:

  • Spread out a drop cloth on a flat surface and place the storage system on top of it.
  • Take sandpaper and wipe it on the modular storage system to make the surface rough. This will help the primer to stay on the otherwise slippery surface.
  • Apply a mild cleanser on the surface and wipe it off so that there are no dust particles before you apply a fresh layer of paint.
  • Take a foam roller and apply the primer on the surface of the storage system. These are much more effective when you are painting furniture made of wood or laminate. You can use a brush in corners where you cannot use a roller.
  • After you have applied the primer, it is now time for the paint. Apply a coat of paint. Allow it to dry completely and then re-apply another coat.
  • When you are done with the painting, apply a layer of polyurethane to protect the surface from scratches. You should leave the modular system with the polyurethane coat for a week before using it again.

With this bit of effort, your modular cube storage system will look anew and can be used for many more years.
