Decorating and arranging rooms can be extremely stressful process. The design and arrangement of its furniture speaks a lot about the kind of person residing there. So one must be careful about the way their room is decorated and furniture arranged. It is wise to maintain ones calm and not to make hasty decisions while arranging and designing one’s home.

Arrange & Design a Room

Here we are providing some general tips which would help you immensely in arranging furniture in your room.

Place the largest pieces first:

  • The major furniture pieces for the primary activity of the room i.e. the bed for the bedroom, sofa for the living room, should be placed in the room first.
  • Also these major pieces must face the focal point of the room which might be the fireplace, window that gives the best outside view or more commonly TV.
  • Evenly distribute the large furniture pieces around the room so that the balance of the room view is not disturbed.

Place those furniture pieces related to the main furniture next:

After you arrange the main furniture it’s time that you arrange the secondary furniture pieces in a way that would bring comfort and convenience to your activities inside the room. Secondary furniture pieces that are to be kept in the room must complement the main furniture and the purpose of the room. If the room is to be used for socializing e.g. the living room the there must be enough seating arrangements and tea tables in addition to the sofa. Keep furniture pieces of similar scale together as much feasible. However this must not be done at the cost of dismantling the balance of the room. A pair of upholstered chairs place opposite to the main sofa would look a lot better than a pair of small sized occasional chairs.

Place your furniture where it looks best:

Furniture should be chosen according to the design of the room. Also be aware of the amount of light that flows inside the room. Dark coloured furniture should be strongly abhorred if the room is dimly lit. Also brightly coloured furniture shall be tastelessly showy if positioned beneath a picture window. Create verity in the room by mixing the taller and shorter furniture items. It would break the monotonous mood making the room look glorious.

Beware of traffic patterns:

Furniture should be places in a way that so that you wont topple over them and can move about freely. Leave ample space around the furniture at least two and a half feet for walking around freely in the room.

While making furniture arrangement plans comprehend all the rooms of the house as a single entity and then lay out the plans so that there is coherence in your furniture arrangement plans throughout the house.

What ever you do, just remember that your room decors and arrangements reflect your personality i.e. the kind of person you are. If you are following any picture of a room decor, do not follow it blindly. Mix your sense of realism in it and blend it with your own sense of taste and comfort. Never compromise your comfort after all it’s you who are going to be living there.
